Two vehicles were targeted by arson in the space of less than 2 hours during the night from Sunday to Monday in the Rivière-des-Prairies sector, in the east of the island of Montreal.
A first call to 911 reported shortly before midnight to the Montreal police that a fire had started on a vehicle on rue Jules Helbronner, near rue Trefflé-Berthiaume.
When the police arrived on site, citizens were in the process of controlling the situation, indicated the spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
An incendiary object was located inside the vehicle which suffered considerable damage, continued spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

According to witnesses met by the police, a suspect was seen setting fire to the vehicle before fleeing, said Mr. Brabant.
Around 1:30 a.m., the SPVM received another call for a vehicle on fire on 5th Avenue, near Rue André-Arnoux.
An incendiary object was found on the scene, while the vehicle is considered a total loss, according to the Brabant publicist, who specifies that there is no damage to the property.
The file of the two fires was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM, while the two vehicles were towed to undergo an assessment, it was added.
