Radon is a radioactive gas of natural origin, invisible, odorless and dangerous for health. It is the second cause of lung cancer after tobacco.

An information meeting took place in Saint-Benoît-du-Sault, Wednesday November 6, 2024, as part of the third regional radon measurement campaign.

This meeting interested 25 people, from the municipalities of Saint-Benoît, La Châtre-L'Anglin, Mouhet, Roussines and Badecon-le Pin.

It was led by Sébastien Denizot, environmental health project manager at Cap Tronçais, based in Allier; Guillaume Godinat, health technician at the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Centre-Val de and François Perrot, also health technician at the ARS.

A risk in 41 municipalities in southern Indre

They indicated that the aim of the meetings is to raise awareness and inform the population about the existence of this gas which can be found in housing built on rocks which naturally emit radon. A risk that concerns 41 municipalities in southern Indre.

After a presentation on the origin of this natural gas and its effects on health, the organizers presented the recommendations for installing a kit, a dosimeter.

“This kit will support volunteers and offer advice on actions to adopt to improve the quality of indoor air in their homes (ventilation, ventilation, etc.)”, indicated Sébastien Denizot, before handing over this free kit and information concerning the transmission of the results.

For people who purchased this kit, the question concerned its installation in their home for at least two months, or even three months.

Two other meetings are planned: Wednesday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m., in Aigurande, association hall, and Friday, November 15, at 6:30 p.m., in La Châtre, room no. 2 located in the Jenny-de-Vasson courtyard.

People who cannot attend one of the information meetings but who wish to obtain a kit must make a request by email to [email protected] or by telephone at 04.70.09.00.23 and ask for Sébastien Denizot , until December 6, 2024.
