House of the Dragon is back for a second season. Here’s everything you need to know about its release.

Two years after its launch, the Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon, returns for a second season which will once again put family plots and betrayals at the heart of its plot. This new burst of episodes will be distinguished from previous ones by its choice to move away from palace intrigues to be more interested in the fate of the people, often victims of power struggles between the nobles and who “who toast as soon as the nobles have a disagreement”. The introduction of new characters, such as Cregan Stark, ancestor of Jon Snow, could well bring new life to the saga.

The appointment is given this June 17 to discover the sequel to House of the Dragon. And as usual, it’s happening on the HBO Max platform. The first episode was broadcast on the night of Sunday to Monday. You can subscribe on the Max platform, but other options are available, such as joining the Warner pass on the Prime Video platform. Max is also available for free via certain Canal+ offers. Note that the season will be broadcast one episode per week, with the finale probably expected on August 5. The first episode could count on the presence of 9.98 million spectators, will it be a success once again?

First returns on the season

What to expect from this new season of House of the Dragon? According to Allociné, it is a real return to the sources that is taking place: “As the episodes progress, tensions spread. The muscles tense. It is a slow poison that infuses while factions preparet”. Ouest France, nevertheless, is initially more skeptical, observing a new season “slower and talkative“which first gives rise to dialogue scenes”which have enough to lose the spectator, as much as the actors“. Before finally concluding:

By finally daring to fully embrace the legacy of Game of Thrones, and avoiding time jumps, season 2 of House of the Dragon takes us back with pleasure to a bloody and surprising universe, where no one is safe of a sharp sword or of treachery.

Very promising return therefore, for this season 2 whose Rottent Tomatoes score peaks at a very good 87%. The international press agrees that House of the Dragon carefully sets up its emotional stakes to make the show very attractive. It’s up to you to judge now.
