The Paralympic Flame passes through La Roche-sur-Yon

La Roche-sur-Yon keeps the flame alive! On June 4, the Olympic Flame shone in the Yonnais sky, applauded by 30,000 people. On August 25, it is the Paralympic torch that will catch the eyes of spectators.

Like eleven other French towns, La Roche-sur-Yon is the starting point of this new relay. These 12 Flames will then converge on Paris to light the cauldron on August 28, the opening date of the Paralympic Games.

In La Roche-sur-Yon, 24 Flamebearers will take turns on a 2.4 kilometer route, traced in the heart of the town, starting from Place du Président Jacques-Chirac. Among them, Fabrice Dubois, the Yonnais handikart pilot: “ The great things accomplished in my sport, my mission of prevention and awareness of road safety among young people… Being a carrier is the reward for all that. Carrying the Paralympic Flame in front of the Yonnais, in La Roche-sur-Yon, is such an honor. »

Flavie Caiveau’s eyes shine at the idea of presenting the Flame to the public. “ People talk to me about it every day! smiles the table tennis player adapted to the TT La Roche Vendée. On the big day, I will concentrate and go to the end with this beautiful Flame. » Ludovic Ponthoreau, the tireless volunteer, is also ready: “ Carrying the Paralympic Flame is the most beautiful line in my sporting CV. On August 25, I will live a waking dream! »

La Roche-sur-Yon is among the 5 French cities to host both the Olympic Flame and the Paralympic Flame on its territory.
