This Sunday, the Slovenes and the Danes neutralized each other in Stuttgart to sign the first draw of this Euro (1-1).

TOPS

Eriksen as conductor

Like a symbol. Three years after leaving the Euro on a stretcher following a heart attack on June 12, 2021 against Finland, Christian Eriksen marked his return to this competition with an XXL performance. Taking space to disrupt the Slovenian midfielder, perfectly reversing the game for his full-backs… the 32-year-old showed his talent. The icing on the cake, he scored his team’s one and only goal on a superb backheel from Wind (17e), its 42e in 131 selections.

The Slovenian quarter of an hour

Slovenia has come a long way. After a poor first hour of play, Matjaz Kek’s men felt like an electric shock. From 66e minute, the Slovenes stormed Kasper Schmeichel’s cages. The opportunities grew crescendo. A header from Gnezda, a miss from Sporar (73e) and a Sesko post (75e) gave ideas to their left side Janza. On the outskirts of the penalty area, the latter volleyed a cross to shake the Danish goalkeeper’s net. He can thank his opponent Hjulmand, who deflected the trajectory of the ball (77e). Luck happens.

FLOPS

A throw-in worth a goal

Known for its ability to defend with a compact block, Slovenia was surprised on an innocuous touch. Played quickly, the latter is at the start of the Danish opening score. The decisive passer Wind takes advantage of the lack of concentration of his opponents to serve Eriksen who does not need to be asked (17e). Two points flew from this touch for the Slovenes.

Mr Hojlund, we will have to do better

Expected for his first international competition with his selection, Rasmus Hojlund was a shadow of himself this Sunday in Stuttgart. Unlike his attacking partner, Wind, the 21-year-old was transparent, as if the pressure was too much. He created just one chance, easily captured by the experienced Jan Oblak. Too tight to catch the light.
