Regional boccia championship: a day of sport and selection in Lavalette

This is a disabled sport discipline close to pétanque.

The village hosted the regional boccia championship category NE (non-eligible), an event organized by the Occitanie Regional Handisport Committee in partnership with the Aude Departmental Handisport Committee. This competition brought together athletes from across the region, highlighting both enthusiastic beginners and seasoned competitors, all aiming for a place at the French championships.

Boccia is a disabled sport discipline close to pétanque. A real precision game, players must throw leather balls to get as close as possible to a target ball called Jack. It is one of the few sports where men and women can compete together. Indeed, due to its inclusive nature and its rules based on precision rather than physical strength, boccia allows players of all genders and disability levels to compete in a single competition.

For many participants, this day marked their entry into the world of competitive sports. This is how the newcomers were able to show their talent and their passion for boccia. An important first in their new sporting journey.

For the more experienced athletes, the objective was clear: to secure a place in the selection for the next French championships in December 2024 in Mâcon. The matches were played with intensity and great rigor, each player putting forward their best strategies and great skill.

Selected ones

At the end of this day of competition, those selected by category are Laurent Vallèe (NE1); Adbelhak Charif (NE2); Didier Magaud (NE3); William Brach (NE3); Elie Sampietro (NE3); Carlos Martinez (NE4); Matéo Bonnet (NE4) and Cloé Chenu (NE4).

At the end of the competition, the Aude Departmental Committee and the Occitanie Regional Committee once again expressed their gratitude to all the volunteers, partners and supporters who contributed to the success of this event, but also to the town hall for the provision of its gymnasium.
