They roll up their sleeves to clean their port. This Saturday, June 15, the town hall of La Grande Motte organized a “clean port” operation. Objective: clean the docks but also the bottom of the water. More than 140 people and around ten associations were mobilized.

This operation has existed for several years, and with each edition nearly 7 tons of trash are picked up. “We always find the same thingsays Patricia, who is busy on the dike with her blue trash bag. Butts, bags, pieces of plastic, beer bottles… it’s amazing how much there is.”

Cleaning on docks and underwater

Further on, on the Quai Pompidou, Guillaume and Théo take a bike out of the water. With their association “Live under the sea”, they film their underwater collection. “We have a camera and a microphone that goes underwater, and then we transmit the video live to the surface so that passers-by can see us.”explains Guillaume.

We have already found washing machines, shopping carts and even a complete garden furnituresays Theo. We tell ourselves that if we didn’t do this once a year, there would be right up to the surface.”

Actions that bear fruit

Thanks, among other things, to this operation, the port of La Grande Motte is labeled “Pavillon Bleu” by the State, which certifies the quality of its water and rewards its actions in favor of the environment.

The videos of the association “Live under the sea” can be found on their Youtube page.
