Left freely for Brest last summer, Jonas Martin ideally bounced back at 34. If the former Lille player only played a secondary role in Finistère, he should play in the Champions League next season with SB29.

Jonas Martin returns to the highest level

It’s never too late to get started again. At 33 years old and after an almost blank season (13 matches with LOSC in all competitions, 283 minutes of play), Jonas Martin chose Stade Brestois. A year later, it is clear that great good has come to him. At 34 years old today, the former LOSC is preparing to return to the Champions League after having tasted it with lip service (a match with Montpellier in 2012/2013, another with Rennes in 2020/2021).

Rotation player with Brest (31 Ligue 1 matches, 9 starts), Jonas Martin was the designated replacement for a capital and indestructible Pierre Lees-Melou, also sometimes replacing Hugo Magnetti or Mahdi Camara to secure a third place synonymous with C1 to the nose and beard… of LOSC. Enough to afford a second youth at the highest level, he who could have relaunched in Ligue 2 last summer. The fault is a missed year at LOSC, which will not, however, prevent the former Mastiff from praising the work of Paulo Fonseca.

It remains to be seen whether the defensive midfielder will remain at SB29. The Finistère club could, without completely changing size, want to regenerate its midfield. But the desires of Pierre Lees-Melou or Hugo Magnetti could tempt Breton leaders to continue the adventure with Jonas Martin, under contract until 2025.
