Former LFI presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon assured that becoming Prime Minister was “not an existential subject” for him, praising his camp’s ability to train “capable leaders”.

Unaltered confidence. Former LFI presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon ensures that he does not make his political ambition a priority and praises his camp’s ability to create “capable leaders”, drawing a parallel with Léon Blum, at the head of the Popular Front in 1936, Saturday June 15 in an interview on 20 Minutes.

“Matignon is not an existential subject. I am not building a career. The rebels have produced capable leaders,” assures the former deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône, after having said he felt “capable” of become Prime Minister.

“When Léon Blum became head of government in 1936, he was not at the level of Manuel Bompard, nor Mathilde Panot or Clémence Guetté, he was an art critic and Marxist leader of the Socialist Party,” he believes. .

A figure regularly mentioned

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is not the first politician to mention Léon Blum, figure of the Popular Front, in recent days.

The former head of the PS-Place publique list in the European elections Raphaël Glucksmann said he had “a thought over the last 24 hours for Léon Blum”, shortly after the formation of the New Popular Front.

Emmanuel Macron, for his part, judged on Wednesday at a press conference that “Léon Blum (must) turn in his grave” after the constitution of the New Popular Front, which he described as “indecent”.

“Lifetime nominations do not exist”

Jean-Luc Mélenchon also assumes the non-reinvestment of certain rebellious executives, such as the deputies for Seine-Saint-Denis Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière or the deputy for Paris Danielle Simonnet.

“Investigations for life do not exist. But political coherence and loyalty in the first left-wing parliamentary group are also a requirement for governing,” he assures.

“We are keeping the promise to extend the candidacies to union and association activists. The others will undoubtedly do the same, as promised. We had to reserve very winnable seats for this,” he explains again.

“The agreement is signed,” he says again about the New Popular Front, which he claims not to endanger.
