More importantly, the one who was to be sworn in as mayor on December 2 is awaiting the opinion of an expert on the deliberation and the official and reasoned decision of the CEL. Clearly, nothing will be decided before the weekend on the Committed side. The same goes for Yves Willaert and his group Celles Demain, who “is waiting to have the report in front of him and to go through it in detail before making a decision.“
The two leading figures of the majority pact now swept aside are cautious in their response and legitimately ask themselves the question of the interest of going to appeal. Wasting time and energy? Only if it’s really worth it. What if voting as quickly as possible was the best solution? The state council may not like sending citizens (who didn’t ask for anything) to the polls. But if the factual elements pointed out by the local elections council are authentic, there is no reason for the last “bulwark” to deliver a different verdict.
Jean Delestrain, Yves Willaert and their running mates have eight days from receipt of this order to file an appeal. We will then know if the elections will take place in mid-January, mid-March, or if they will not take place. In the meantime, Michaël Busine remains mayor of a municipality in current affairs.
Brugelette voted in October 2012 and March 2013!
At the time, the local elections board did not exist. Governors decided without expert advice. The matter was brought to the Council of State, which confirmed the irregularity noted concerning the ballot submitted for the elections. In essence, this decree states: “this ballot did not include a box allowing you to vote by name for the applicant, Ginette Renard, the only candidate on her list. A series of voters attested to having been surprised by the presentation of the ballot paper and having changed their vote accordingly or having placed a sign themselves next to the applicant’s name. However, 49 additional votes were enough for Ms. Renard to be elected. The irregularity is therefore considered likely to have influenced the distribution of seats between the lists.“
The candidate was finally elected following the March 2013 ballot.
