5 years ago, on November 4, 2019, the charismatic singer of the group Midnite, originally from the Virgin Islands, Vaughn Benjamin, died following a long illness, leaving an indelible mark in the history of reggae with his aura, his wisdom and of course his creativity.

Known for his extensive stage performances, whether with Midnite or with his latest group, Akae Beka, formed in 2015, Vaughn Benjamin leaves behind an impressive discography of nearly 70 albums, including the incredible UnpolishedMidnite's first album released in 1997, and Make A Menshunthe last one released during his lifetime. He had been suffering from a serious illness for several years which he managed to hide from the public. He was 50 years old when he died.

Note that artist Vaughn Benjamin will soon be honored with the construction of a memorial and park on St. , US Virgin Islands.

Indeed, in order to pay tribute to this charismatic, wise and mystical character, the Legislative Assembly of the Virgin Islands adopted a law aimed at posthumously highlighting his contribution to reggae music in the Virgin Islands and around the world. The act provides for the granting of $45,000 to the Ministry of Sports, Parks and Recreation for the design and construction of a Monument Vaughn Benjamin and a Vaughn Memorial Park “Akae Beka”.
