“That’s why I took it”: Emmanuel Macron criticizes François Hollande

Between François Hollande and Emmanuel Macron, it is not not crazy love at all. It must be said that the former President of the Republic is still struggling with the “betrayal” of his former advisor and Minister of the Economy, who resigned to launch the presidential race. Since 2017, relations have been more or less cordial. Except when their disagreements are too great. And this is the case with the dissolution of the National Assembly announced by Emmanuel Macron after the European elections.

The day after this shock announcement, they found themselves in Tulle. In his stronghold, François Hollande expressed his thoughts to Emmanuel Macron. “It’s a bad decision”, he would have told him, according to Le Figaro Magazine. Comments to which the President of the Republic immediately responded. “I don’t think so. It’s a good decision, and that’s why I made it,” Emmanuel Macron retorted. But nothing to calm François Hollande’s nerves…

François Hollande criticizes Emmanuel Macron

On the set of 8 p.m. on TF1, in fact, Julie Gayet’s husband gave it a once-over. “As President of the Republic, I was faced with difficult intermediate elections. I never thought of dissolving the National Assembly, he explained. The decision taken by President Macron, at a time when Europe is facing a war on its doorstep, and France is going to host the Olympic Games, comes at the worst time and in the worst circumstances.”

“We must face reality, added François Hollande. The reality is that, since the Liberation, the far right has never been so close to coming to power. I consider that the possibility that the extreme right being able to govern France creates a danger. To imagine that France could be governed by the extreme right is not just a problem in France, it is a problem for the image of France.” An opinion which must have inevitably reached the ears of Emmanuel Macron…

Has Emmanuel Macron gone “crazy”?

But the head of state is sure of his decision. In front of the press, he recognized that the result of the European elections
“imposed a dissolution” of the National Assembly. “It alone allows the clarification of thingshe assured. A historic moment for our country.” For Emmanuel Macron, “it is also a test of truth between those who choose to make their store prosper and those who want to make France prosper”. “The return to the sovereign people is, in my eyes, in this context”the only solution “Republican”.

Described as “mad” by several of his opponents, Emmanuel Macron does not listen to the criticism. “I only think of France. It was the right decision, in the interest of the country. And I say to the French: don’t be afraid, go voter, he assured Le Figaro. A new campaign is beginning, and we should not look at the scores by constituency in terms of those of the European elections.” The early legislative elections will be held on June 30 and July 7. Will Emmanuel Macron have a new Prime Minister?
