His father’s shadow follows him in everything he does. Saturday June 15, 2024, Mick Schumacher will set off for the first time in his career on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit. An experience that he can’t wait to live even if it never really made him dream of it. “The 24 Hours of Le Mans has never been on my bucket list. It was never really a dream“, he declared in the columns of Le Parisien.

Indeed, today his dream is to return to Formula 1 which he was able to experience in 2021. But his season did not go at all as planned since he had underperformed. A few months ago, to rediscover sensations, he decided to discover WEC, a circuit in full expansion and joined the Alpine team.

Mick Schumacher to take part in a night race for the first time

I discovered a very good driver, but above all a very good guy. Initially he didn’t know much about Endurance, but he was immediately ready to work and get involved with a good mindset“, confided Philippe Sinault, the boss of the Alpine team. Michael Schumacher’s son had to show composure to adapt to the many differences that there may be in these circuits.

I’m never afraid to get in a car. I take all these new developments as a challenge. It’s the first time I’m going to drive in complete darkness, it’s a totally different feeling than anything I’ve ever experienced.. I consider it a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge and become a better driver“, he said again, happy to discover the 24 hours of Le Mans circuit.

Mick Schumacher simply hopes to finish the race

It’s a very beautiful race, a legendary place. It’s a real honor to be here. Le Mans is a very good bonus to add to my CV. I can’t wait to see what the race will be like“, he added. Despite everything, he would like to point out that he will be riding on this circuit for the first time in his career and that he therefore does not really hope to obtain a podium.

The main goal is to finish the race and join the fight. We will see the ranking at the end.” As a reminder, 33 years earlier, in 1991, it was his father, whose state of health remains secret after a serious skiing accident in December 2013, who discovered this circuit for the first time. He managed to get fifth place.
