The lifeless body of an octogenarian woman was found at her home on Monday in Férin.

Shortly after, a 51-year-old man, known to the courts for violence, rape and sexual assault, and suspected of having killed her, was arrested.

He was indicted for “aggravated murder” and placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday evening.

It was the nurse with whom she had an appointment who found her dead at home in the morning. Monday June 10, the lifeless body of an 82-year-old woman was discovered in her small house in Férin, near Douai in the North, by the health professional who came to provide her care. The victim then showed numerous traces of violence.

Alerted, the police and emergency services went to the scene and the Douai public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation. A few hours after the incident, in the evening, a suspect was arrested and taken into custody. “The accused is 51 years old. His judgment is, according to initial assessments, impaired and his criminal record contains five mentions for acts of aggravated violence, sexual assault and rape of a vulnerable person. He was convicted by the court of Saint-Omer assizes in 2014 to a sentence of 10 years of criminal imprisonment”tells TF1info Frédéric Fourtoy, public prosecutor of Douai, this Thursday.

Analyzes underway to determine if the victim was raped

At the end of his police custody, the fifty-year-old was indicted for “aggravated murder” and placed in pre-trial detention.

“The cause of death was the asphyxiation of the victim, who also had several stab wounds”adds the prosecutor after an autopsy of the victim was carried out.

Concerning the possible sexual violence that the octogenarian could have suffered, given the accused’s judicial past, the magistrate explains that“this is a serious hypothesis which will have to be verified within the framework of the judicial investigation which has been opened”, and specifies that “analyses are in progress”.
