The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened two procedures following fires that occurred this summer in Geneva, one at the Algerian Mission to the UN and the other at the Consulate General of . Files are opened against unknown persons, in particular for intentional fire.

The fire at the Algerian Mission broke out on the night of Tuesday August 13. 20 minutes then specified that the fire had started in the kitchen and that there had been no injuries. The second fire occurred on Thursday August 15 in the Consulate General of France. According to the French consul Clément Leclerc, cited by the RTSthe fire which broke out in the middle of the night caused only superficial damage.

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPC) opened two proceedings following these fires. Files are opened against unknown persons, in particular for intentional fire. This information, revealed Friday by RTS, was confirmed to ATS by the MPC spokesperson.

In the wake of these fires, the MPC specifies having been informed by the Geneva authorities of acts of vandalism perpetrated against the Consulate General of France. He will also take over this file. “Investigations are underway, including checks regarding the potential link between the cases,” notes the MPC. (ag/ats)
