Antony Blinken tells Gaza donors that ceasefire is best way to resolve humanitarian crisis

Addressing an international donor conference for Gaza, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the most effective way for countries to address the humanitarian crisis was to pressure Hamas into accepting Israel’s latest hostage deal proposal.

Mr. Blinken began his speech by highlighting the dire situation in Gaza. “More than a million people have been displaced from Rafah in the past month alone, many of whom had already been uprooted multiple times.”

“Ninety-five percent of residents do not have access to clean water. Hunger is pervasive. Virtually everyone in Gaza depends on aid to survive. Most of Gaza’s sanitation system has been destroyed. Fewer than a dozen of Gaza’s 40 hospitals are open and more than 270 aid workers have been killed. The most effective step we can take to address the urgent humanitarian challenges in Gaza is to achieve a ceasefire. immediate and, ultimately, lasting fire,” says Mr. Blinken. “My first message today is to all governments, all multilateral institutions and all humanitarian organizations who wish to alleviate the suffering. Massive protests in Gaza: Get Hamas to accept the deal. Pressure them publicly. Press them in private,” he adds.
