The town of Lavaur has set up a psychological unit for witnesses to the tragedy that occurred on Saturday June 8 in the gardens of the Bishopric. A man died and four people were injured following the fall of two large branches as a Rock & Cars festival concert was about to begin.
Since Saturday June 8, emotion has been intense in Lavaur where the fall of two branches of a large plane tree on Rock & Cars festival-goers left one person dead, a British national, and four injured. The events took place when there was no wind or storm, surprising the public and the organizers. Many witnesses present at 6 p.m. recount the sound of branches cracking and screams then the arrival of help. Many say they are shocked to have witnessed this scene and some explain that they were sitting at the site of the accident a few minutes before.

The mayor of Lavaur reacted in a press release, the day after the tragedy: “ I assure his family of our deep compassion and loving thoughts during this unbearable ordeal. I wish the injured a speedy recovery after the traumatic shock they suffered. Never has such a dramatic event occurred in our city.” Thus Bernard Carayo asked the municipal social action center (CCAS) to coordinate the creation of a dedicated psychological unit, set up by the Samu and made up of professional volunteers.
“You witnessed the tragedy that occurred in Lavaur during the Rock & Cars festival and you would like to be accompanied by a psychologist: you are invited to contact the CCAS”. The psychological unit is located at Espace Saint-Roch, 2, rue de l’Abattoir.
Public access and all demonstrations are temporarily prohibited in the garden of the Bishopric
Since the accident, public access and all demonstrations have been temporarily prohibited in the Bishop’s Palace garden, until all risk has passed. This weekend, the event planned for Sunday in the Chai des Clauzades park was also canceled for security reasons. The mayor of Lavaur also announced on Sunday that an administrative investigation would be carried out.
