The Last Tuesday Society offers a refreshing exhibition for the summer

The Last Tuesday Society, which includes an absinthe distillery called The Absinthe Parlour and a museum of curiosities, promises Londoners an unforgettable summer with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the origins and rituals of their specialty: absinthe.

The free event, titled Let Me Be Madinvites visitors to discover original artworks and artefacts from absinthe’s golden age, while celebrating the spirit’s rise as a liquid muse and the reasons for its inexorable fall. A guided tour, with a glass of the venue’s favourite absinthe in hand, will explore the magical and medicinal origins of this botanical spirit, offering a unique insight into its hidden links to London.

This exhibition, the first of its kind, takes its name from Marie Corelli’s novel, Wormwood: A Drama of Pariswritten in London in 1890: “Let me be mad, then, by all means! Mad with the madness of absinthe, the wildest and most luxurious madness in the world!”. Let Me Be Mad will be inaugurated with a launch party on Wednesday, July 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. The first 100 guests will receive a glass of Devil’s Botany Chocolate absinthe upon arrival, as well as special gifts throughout the evening.

To bring the spirit of this exhibition to life, The Absinthe Parlor will also launch a new cocktail menu titled Pataphysics. For the most curious whose thirst for knowledge would not be quenched by a few cocktails, The Last Tuesday Society will offer five conferences throughout the summer exploring the links between absinthe, literature, art and history, as well as a tasting evening hosted by co-founder Allison Crawbuck, Sunday August 25.
