“Given the seriousness of the facts which aroused strong emotion, we wanted to provide an initial point of information but the investigation has only just begun.” It is with these words that the Public Prosecutor, Caroline Calbot, opened the press conference intended to take stock of the investigation concerning the double infanticide which occurred this Tuesday morning around 3 o'clock, in the Boyer district in Sainte-Rose. A neighborhood which found itself in shock upon learning of this horrible tragedy.

  • It was the father who alerted the police

The Sainte-Rose gendarmes received a call from the father, returning from his night work, for a missing child at 2:49 a.m. A patrol went to the scene at 3:20 a.m. and upon entering the family's home they discovered the two children aged 1 and 4 and a half years old, decapitated in the bathroom. A bladed weapon was discovered at the scene but at this stage of the investigation the prosecutor did not wish to give details on the type of weapon.

At 3:30 a.m., a woman was reported wandering the streets of the town. A second team of gendarmes arrested him at 3:45 a.m. She is completely naked and delirious. She rushes towards the police who will have to use an electric pulse gun to apprehend her. Placed in police custody, she must be taken to the Guadeloupe University Hospital given her condition. She will be hospitalized under restraint in a psychiatric unit.

Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow autopsies will be carried out on the bodies of the two children found decapitated. The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie research brigade. The judicial police unit of the territorial police directorate of Guadeloupe has been notified and will support the investigation. Psychological support channels were put in place for everyone present when the children's bodies were discovered.

  • Specific methods of murder

Given the terms of this double infanticide, the investigation could take several weeks according to Prosecutor Caroline Calbot. Information points may be produced as progress progresses. “It’s a terrible deal.” concluded General Christophe Perret, commander of the gendarmerie.
