Météo-France has placed the departments of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Gers and Hautes-Pyrénées on orange thunderstorm and rain-flood alert on Saturday June 8.

Despite the return of the sun this week in France, new storms are expected on Saturday June 8 over a large part of the territory. Faced with the risk of violent storms and flooding, the southwestern departments of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Landes have been placed on orange alert by Météo-France, relayed by BFMTV. This bad weather is due to a “hot and humid air mass” coming from Spain, indicates Météo-France. “This air becomes unstable late Saturday afternoon to give rise to heavily rainy thunderstorms in the west of the region”explains the weather report.

Severe thunderstorms in the evening

Strong thunderstorms could therefore break out in the evening in these three neighboring departments, accompanied by heavy rain. In total, more than 100 mm of precipitation could be reached in certain areas, BFMTV alert. In addition, after a few days of calm and sunshine, rain is expected in Limoges, Auxerre and even Reims in the afternoon. According to Météo-France, storms will break out in the east of the country, in Bourgogne-France-Comté.

Despite this bad weather, temperatures should remain above the 20°C mark, with 28°C expected in Toulouse, and more than 26°C in Occitanie. According to information from BFMTV, hail could however be observed in the event of heavy rain. In the north of France, the weather will remain calm and dry, especially in Paris.
