Detective series and films are not at all far from reality. Clues, however minimal they may be, can be triggers, sometimes leading to the resolution of a murder. This is exactly what happened during a recent American murder investigation, the killer of which was found thanks to DNA found on a beer can.
A can of beer to solve a murder
While camping 56 km south of Bozeman, Montana, a 35-year-old man was found dead: Dustin Kjersem. A mysterious event, where county investigators were unable to determine the circumstances of this brutal death.
After considering the possibility of a bear, a can of beer tipped the scales towards homicide. Found not far from the campsite, the latter seems to suggest that Dustin Kjersem had had a drink with his murderer before this tragic incident.
Moreover, the American police found and identified the DNA of the killer using the national database of the United States of America: Daren Christopher Abbey.
A murderer who is not completely white
“The 41-year-old is charged with voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence after allegedly cleaning up the campsite,” reports Vice. Daren Christopher Abbey has no motive for the evening of the murder, and as a bonus, his criminal record is not clean.
In fact, the latter was arrested “four or more times” for driving while drunk. We also learn that it would be a gratuitous murder, given that the sheriff of Gallatin County, Dan Springer, specifies that “there does not appear to be a link between our victim and our suspect”.
The latter thus explains that we are facing “a heinous crime committed by an individual who had no respect for the life of Dustin Kjersem”.
Unfortunately for the murderer, the camper had to pick up his girlfriend the next day, which led to the discovery of the body. “He was supposed to come pick her up, but never did, so she and a friend ended up going there,” Vice says.
We are thus faced with a sad event, but where justice will have finally been done, thanks to a small piece of evidence full of crucial information!
