In the match for the poorly ranked group 3 of Regional 1, Ribérac won against Montignac (25-20), Sunday November 3. The Riberacois thus put an end to a series of four consecutive defeats. CAR had only won once, for the opening, Sunday September 22 (22-20 against Saint-Cyprien).
“We're in trouble, yesterday's victory [NDLR : dimanche] was imperative. But with around thirty injured, first team and reserve combined, it was complicated,” says Sébastien Oyhanondo, the coach of the Ribera forwards.
Against Montignac (ESM), the Riberacois showed two faces in the first period. A quarter of an hour into the game, Pierre Mercier, helped by his pack, scored the first try of the match, converted by Alexis Raffis (7-0, 14th). The CAR number 8 also scored 20 points in this meeting.
Taken to the break
After these good twenty minutes, Ribérac conceded two tries in less than ten minutes. The first by Charly Boucheron and the second by Arthur Nicolas. With Jérémy Roubio's two conversions, ESM led 7-14 at the break. And the yellow and green saw the specter of a fifth defeat coming.
“We asked the players, during the break, to do simpler things and not to panic. We knew we were capable of doing much better than in the second part of the first period,” added Oyhanondo.
Ten minutes after the restart, Raffis added a penalty and a try, allowing the Riberacois to get back in front by a point (15-14, 50th). Montignac did not give up and Roubio added two penalties (15-20, 65th).
CAR recovers 6th place
But Raffis still carried his team with another try and a transformation. Ribérac had the last word with a final penalty from his number 8.
With this second victory, CAR regains 6th place, tied with Saint-Cyprien. “We breathe, even if in terms of content, we are capable of doing better. Now, we will prepare ourselves as best as possible to play the derby against Lalinde”, Sunday November 17, concludes Sébastien Oyhanondo. For its part, Montignac remains last with only one victory in six matches.
Villefranche-du-Périgord
Villefranche-du-Périgord (pool 3 of Regional Promotion 3) has a new three-quarter coach. Hugo Lacombe arrives from the US Vallée du Lot, where he played before having to stop after an injury. The former number 9 played at Belvès from 2017 to 2023. He replaces Olivier Charles, who took a step back as coach but remains a player.
