UNITED STATES. Heatwave sends eleven people to hospital during Donald Trump rally

An intense heat wave swept through Arizona (United States) this Thursday, June 6, 2024, causing the hospitalization of eleven people on the sidelines of a Donald Trump meeting in Phoenix. And for good reason: thousands of supporters of the former president waited in a temperature of 44°C before being able to enter the immense Dream City church, reports the BBC .

Slowed down by the strict security measures put in place for the occasion, the participants were in fact forced to wait outside under the blazing sun. On site, firefighters intervened to treat several people suffering from heat-related problems. The rescuers notably used ice to cool them down. According to our colleagues, more than 30 million people have been placed on alert for dangerously high temperatures in the southwestern region of the country, indicates the BBC.

49°C in Death Valley

Because this early heat wave didn’t just affect Arizona. In California, temperatures reached record highs, with a forecast of 49°C in Death Valley. In Las Vegas, the temperature reached 44°C and the heat alert was extended until Saturday June 8, 2024. As our colleagues recall, this month of May was the hottest ever recorded in the world. For their part, experts from the National Weather Service have already predicted a scorching summer.

This is the first rally that the former President of the United States has organized since his criminal conviction in New York in the “Stormy Daniels” affair. Unsurprisingly, the former president took advantage of this platform to denounce the verdict, once again asserting that it was a “rigged trial” and that the accusations were “invented and manufactured”.
