In an interview published by the Turkish daily Hurriyet, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, expressed concern that the United States and Russia are moving closer to a possible direct military conflict. He attributed the escalation to President Biden’s policies, which he said have intensified anti-Russian sentiment in the United States.
Asked about the upcoming US presidential elections, Lavrov downplayed the impact the outcome could have on Russia’s position. He pointed out that despite previous statements of admiration for Putin, the Trump administration has imposed a significant number of sanctions against Russia, more than any previous administration. Mr. Lavrov said that whoever wins the election, he expects continued U.S. hostility toward Russia.

Putin himself has indicated that his relations with Washington will depend on the approach taken by the United States after the elections. He recently called Trump’s statements about finding a solution to the Ukraine conflict “sincere.”
