The end of the afternoon was more eventful than usual in the residential area of Bregille, this Sunday, November 3 in Besançon. While walking in the area, a passerby smelled a very suspicious odor above a manhole cover. The firefighters, contacted, took his alert seriously.
Once on site, the emergency services and the police officers also mobilized established a security perimeter including the start of rue Gaiffe and a portion of rue des Frères-Chaffanjon, in order to work in complete peace of mind. A few adjoining homes were temporarily evacuated of their inhabitants at the start of the intervention, in order to minimize the risks.

Detectors in hand, firefighters and a GRDF agent tried to locate the source of this suspicious odor, consistent with a potential underground gas leak. Rotting organic matter somewhere in the sewers was also a hypothesis considered. The fire service was lifted an hour later, with no gas reading causing any concern for local residents. GRDF will continue investigations in the coming days to detect the possible leak.
