Sonatrach: new gas exports to the Czech Republic

The national oil and gas group Sonatrach began its first deliveries of natural gas to the Czech Republic this Sunday, October 1. This operation marks the start of the group’s activities on the Central European market.

Delivery takes place within the framework of a supply contract signed with ČEZ, the main Czech energy supplier. According to the Sonatrach press release, the agreement was concluded after two years of negotiations and provides for the delivery of Algerian gas via the trans-Mediterranean gas pipeline linking Algeria to Italy.

This new contract allows Sonatrach to access the Czech gas market, in a European context of diversification of natural gas supply sources. “This agreement constitutes the cornerstone of a promising cooperation between the two companies,” indicates the group. However, the precise terms of the agreement, including delivery volumes and its duration, were not communicated.

This export to the Czech Republic adds to Sonatrach’s existing markets in Southern Europe, where the company already has gas transport infrastructure.
