For several days, x (Twitter) has officially authorized pornographic and violent content on its social network. But measures put in place by the platform allow users not to see this sensitive content if they do not wish to do so.
In early June, X (formerly Twitter) changed its rules to officially allow pornographic and violent content. A change considered “a provocation” by the French government. As the social network does not verify the age of its users, the State is indeed concerned about minors who could access this sensitive content.
However, there are options allowing you not to see this type of images and videos on X. Tech&Co explains how.
Hide sensitive content
In its settings, X indeed offers an option called “Content you see”. In particular, it allows users to deactivate the “show media with potentially sensitive content” option for those who do not wish to see them. It is also possible to click on “Search settings” to activate the “hide offensive content” option. This prevents posts containing potentially sensitive content from being displayed in search results.
- To access “Content you see”, on the web version of X, simply click on “More”, then “Settings and privacy” and “Privacy and security”.
- On the mobile version of the social network, you will need to press “Settings and support”, then “Settings and privacy” and “Privacy and security”.
X manages to hide sensitive content from users who don’t want to see it, because the social network offers “media settings” for each account. These “help us understand the type of media you publish and allow us to help users find the content that interests them,” explains the platform on its support center.
Concretely, these settings allow users publishing sensitive content to mark them as such and therefore prevent them from being displayed to people who do not want to see them. In its new policies concerning pornographic and violent content, X also specifies that they are authorized, but on condition of being “marked correctly”.
