Senior Athletics Championship, Region II: Burkina Faso ranked 3rd with 14 medals including 4 gold

The Region II Senior Athletics Championship is being held from June 3-5, 2024 in Accra, Ghana. Burkinabè athletes defended themselves well in this sub-regional athletics match organized by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA). These competitions were dominated by Ghana, followed by Nigeria. The representatives of Burkina Faso totaled 14 medals, including 4 gold. He is ranked 3rd.

In three days of competition, Burkina Faso totaled 14 medals including 4 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze.

These performances by Burkinabè athletes, numbering 25, are not without consequences on the ranking. Indeed, “the country of honest men” finished third behind Nigeria and Ghana, the organizing country. The first gold medal was won by Sié Fahige Kambou in the “discus throwing” discipline. He achieved a performance of 55.00 m, thereby breaking his own record. The record held by him for almost a year was 52m70. He achieved this performance at the 9th Francophonie Games in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sié Fahige Kambou is also a silver medalist in the “shot put”. “I am still satisfied with my performance. This performance reassures me for the rest of my career. Because for me it’s about reaching the 60m mark,” he declared after his coronation.

As was to be expected, Sita Sibiri did not disappoint. She won the gold medal in the 400m/hurdles. She also won bronze in the 400m. Among the men, Bienvenu Sawadogo won the 400m hurdles final. Yacouba Loué is also a gold medalist in the triple jump. Madeleine Bognini is a silver and bronze medalist in the triple jump and long jump.
