Many hoped for it but there was no surprise in the 3rd constituency of the Dordogne, the Périgord vert. Sunday June 30, the first round of the legislative elections confirmed what voters had expressed three weeks earlier, during the European elections.

The order of arrival is unchanged: the National Rally (RN) is largely in the lead, followed by the New Popular Front (NFP), then the MoDem. All three are in a runoff, foreshadowing a three-way race if the candidate who came in third place holds on. In the evening, Jean-Pierre Cubertafon, the outgoing MP, had not made his conduct known.

Who wins? Who loses?

Once again, it was in Périgord Vert that the most people voted (73.13%), in a department that also stood out for its tremendous turnout (71.81%). Between the first round of the 2022 legislative elections and this Sunday, 10,227 more voters went to the polls, and 8,178 compared to the European elections at the beginning of the month.

It is therefore RN Florence Joubert who comes well ahead with 40.13%. Already present in 2022, she gained 10,616 voters in two years. A tremendous leap forward, not that surprising if we look at the result of the far right (RN and Reconquest!) in the constituency during the last European elections: 40.8%.

With 28.58%, the socialist Christelle Druillole, for the NFP, is 5,493 votes behind. Certainly, its result is better than that of Nupes in 2022 (23.68%) but lower if we add the socialist dissident of the time (32%). In two years, this left has only won 1,048 votes. And it weighs more or less as much as in European countries (27.4%).

The remaining member of parliament, Jean-Pierre Cubertafon, has won 2,307 votes since the 2022 legislative elections. And with 23.33%, he carries the same weight (23.31% in 2022). His presidential majority has nevertheless improved its score compared to the European elections (12.5%).

With the Republicans representing only a small pool of votes (6.52%), the continuation of the MoDem candidate will not change anything in the balances that emerged in the first round. Only his withdrawal could possibly give the NFP an advantage in the second round, with no guarantee that this will be enough to counter an RN that is now the big favorite.
