Exploration: OMV, Eni and British Petroleum resume their activities in Libya

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that the Austrian company OMV resumed its exploration activities in Libya last Saturday, in block (106/4) of the Sirt basin, to continue drilling operations at the B1 exploratory well – 106/4 (expected to be named Hurricane).

Zueitina Oil Operations is overseeing the drilling of this well, which is expected to reach a final depth of 10,130 feet (3,087 meters) upon drilling completion.

“The return of these companies is part of the strategy of the National Oil Company to increase oil reserves, and is the result of a series of measures and successes that have paved the way for their return and recovery of their activities,” underlines the NOC

Eni, British Petroleum and Repsol

After a hiatus since 2014, Italian companies Eni and British companies British Petroleum have resumed exploration activities in Libya, ending a shutdown of drilling operations in the land region.

Additionally, Spanish company Repsol is preparing to resume drilling in the Murzuq Basin, while Austrian company OMV will begin operations in the Sirt Basin region in the coming weeks.
