Reinforced security in Châteauroux after a new murder, more police officers in the city

The Indre prefecture announced Tuesday June 4, 2024 the arrival in Châteauroux of police reinforcements. The mayor of the city Gil Avérous had called for a reaction from the State in the fight against drug trafficking after a 24-year-old man was shot dead in a street in the town on Monday June 3, 2024.

In a press release, local authorities mentioned the arrival of two anti-crime brigades (Bac) and a canine unit. These police forces have been present in Châteauroux since the day of the announcement by prefect Thibault Lanxade.

Their aim is to ensure the safety of residents, in particular by carrying out more checks. The city has been the scene of several murders recently, says BFMTV .

On Saturday April 27, 2024, a teenager was killed there with several stab wounds. A forty-year-old was also stabbed to death in Châteauroux during a private party, on the night of Saturday May 25 to Sunday May 26, 2024.

Police officers from other departments

The reinforcement of the police force in the city was made possible by the mobilization of civil servants attached to the “bordering departments”specified the prefect.

Radio France recalls that a major security system had already been deployed in the city on the occasion of the passage of the flame of the 2024 Olympic Games and will be put in place again during the Olympic shooting events, which will take place in Châteauroux.
