The Good Guide

Cycling in the dark, dedicating a restaurant to a single dish or dressing in the colors of your favorite coffee shop: these are oddities straight from New York that Paris has already adopted.

Although Big Apple cannot boast as many centuries of history as France, it is clear that our creative people often draw on ideas born across the Atlantic to give birth to new concepts. What are the New York trends that Paris has already adopted? The answer is 4.

Collagen booster bars

Sitting at the Collagen Café on rue Lafayette, it’s rare to hear French spoken. If the sirens don’t roar like they did new Yorkthe half-industrial-half-chic atmosphere, the steel furniture and these strange white masks to stick on the face largely echo the theater of the new New York coffee breaks.

Founded by Amandine Fornot, the concept is a first in Paris but is unanimously unanimous across the Atlantic. In New York but also in Los Angeles, cafes offering a collagen supplement are already trendy. But what is this for? Collagen is a protein that makes up the majority of connective tissues. Its natural production decreases from the age of 25 in the body. Thus, consuming a certain amount daily would help the body support this drop in production, providing a beneficial boost to its joints, the density of its skin and, at the same time, its wrinkles! At 48 Collagen Caféit is diluted in amazing smoothies or colored lattes.

THE spinningone of the trends born in New York

For years now, trendy New Yorkers have swapped their fitness classes on steps for more original disciplines held in “studios” with ultra-design decor. “Spinning” (understand indoor cycling) was born in California in the 90s but it was after the shock of the year 2000 that these bikes equipped with resistance and wide handlebars allowing the most perilous choreographies conquered the world. East coast (SoulCycle) then, across the Atlantic.

In Paris, Dynamo gave the first pedal stroke in 2015. Almost 10 years later, the kilometers are linked in its rooms (10 in total, in Paris, Bordeaux and Marseille) equipped with nightclub sound systems. A competitor nevertheless appeared along the way, Americanizing the concept a little more. Larger and above all more impressive, the spinning rooms stamped Space Cycle more than 60 bikes plunge into the universe on a journey into orbit with lots of wall projections and light shows. Here, the coach pushes his students less to their limits, encourages them to surpass themselves while having fun. A blast!

The single product restaurant

Order a burger or slice of pizza at the counter or even in the window of a nice restaurant without chairs is a truly New York way of life. Because the city that never sleeps only gives a little respite to its inhabitants at dinner time when they finally allow themselves an hour of sitting down to eat in full consciousness, the lunch break is often quickly swallowed but always ordered from the most trendy brands.

In Paris, it was teleworkers tired of Deliveroo who encouraged restaurateurs to invest no longer in dark kitchens but in clearly visible kitchens with attractive designs. The architect duo Mur.Mur has made it their specialty: after Dizen (100% sabich) and Taku (specialized in handrolls), the Kiss shop has just opened its doors, founded by the creator of the American restaurant Echo. Jay’s Pizza follows the trend, offering extra America in the form of New York-style pizza.

The merch

We’ve already told you, fashionable addresses now also advertise themselves on the backs of their customers. This is the case of 48 Collagen Café (see above) which therefore wins the trophy for the most New York of Parisian cafés, but also of Vecchioan Italian-American restaurant that revisits cucina di mamma with a Little Italy twist but also Taverna, our new favorite Greek restaurant.

The happy circle of “in” people are snapping up caps, t-shirts and sweatshirts from restaurants that they have sometimes never even eaten at: the GiftShop site now offers restaurateurs the opportunity to sell their merch online. Style without gaining a gram — and a new trend from New York adopted!
