Live broadcast in a tram in circulation, a first for RCF Saint-Étienne

Prepared for a long time, this “OPEX” was somewhat of a challenge. For one hour, our two live midday shows, The Loire in questions And The Half Hour of News were carried out inside an operating Saint-Etienne tramway, crossing the city from north to south for more than 9 km. On May 28, this tram was decorated in the colors of our network.

A long story…

The tram has existed in Saint-Etienne since 1881 and its use has never been interrupted for more than 140 years. Unique in France for the width of its rails, with a center distance of 1 meter, it has undergone various developments, particularly since the 2000s. The network now has 3 lines, bringing together 60 stops in total.

Guests getting on at different stops in the city center

To discuss this story, its exploitation today, and its impact on the lives of the people of Saint-Etienne, various guests came up through the stops to join the small studio installed behind the “wattman” cabin and discuss with our two journalists Clément Bonsignore and Philippe Louat. In turn, the general director of STAS (operating company), the president of the Urban Transport Museum, users with reduced mobility, traders or tourism officials gave their testimony, among surprised and curious travelers. attend this live.

We would like to thank the entire STAS team and its communications director: they helped to build a tram in RCF colors and to provide us with flawless logistics.

Finally, a tip of the hat to our technical manager, Emmanuel Bouissière, who was able to take on the challenge of a one-hour live broadcast in a traveling studio, with several guests and presenters, with reliable and uninterrupted 4G broadcasting.
