Following the construction of this venue with private funding, completed earlier this year, the organizing committee proposed adapting its venue master plan to incorporate this world-class facility. The decision to use the site to host Olympic basketball competitions illustrates the “radical reuse” strategy adopted by LA28. This approach is in line with the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020, namely adapting the Games to the host region, rather than adapting the regions to host the Olympic event. LA28’s approach emphasizes the use of existing and temporary infrastructure, underscoring the organizing committee’s commitment to minimizing financial and environmental impact, while avoiding any permanent new construction.
During a recent visit to Los Angeles, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach visited several Games venues, including the Inglewood Arena. As he confided after his visit: “These sites are impressive. Athletes can expect an extraordinary experience at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.” He continued: “LA28 will do what Paris 2024 did: deliver an authentic Olympic Games. The Games are always a reflection of the sporting culture of the host country, and Los Angeles has a lot to offer in this regard. I am delighted already planning to hold the next edition of the Summer Games in LA.”
