Open fires will be prohibited from Tuesday morning in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean due to hot and dry weather, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests and the Society for the Protection of Forests Against Fire (SOPFEU).

In a press release published Monday, the SOPFEU indicates that the decision was made due to current weather conditions. The ban notice affects all MRC of the region, in addition to all the regions located north of La Tuque and Quebec.

Moreover, according to the SOPFEUthe fire risks were assessed as being very high in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean for Monday, while they are considered extreme for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Currently, two forest fires are active in Quebec, but none in the region.
