2 albums in 2 years, you are very prolific!

Hervé. I think it was a real pleasure, a real need to go and make this 3rd album. I always kept in the back of my mind this idea of making a record with hyper-British guitar. With all the influences I’ve always had I went on tour with my 2th album and obviously on the road, it was already starting to tickle me: I needed to redo songs. Everything happened super quickly, super naturally. And at the same time, I thought it would be so cool if we went to England. I toured there a lot with Postaal, my first band, I set up my label there at the time. It was really in England that I learned this profession and discovered pop music. I needed to go back. So I took my team with me and I told them “ok, I rented a van, everyone climb in, we’ll take the gear and we’ll finish the songs there, record the guitars, the drums…”. All in a house I had rented in Devon. The first album took us ten years to make. The second is the one where you have to take the most risk, even if it means confusing things. The third is the one that came easiest for me. This is the record I always wanted to make. It’s freedom.

As much as the stage?

The scene is essential. It’s really the heart of the reactor, where I have time to see people after the concerts. Sharing your music, I think there’s nothing better. We’re happy when we go on tour with our friends, it’s a joy.

How was the recording in this family home?

The important thing for me was that everyone could sleep peacefully, go for walks, soak up the area, the air because I work a lot. It’s true that I’m asking a lot. I’m often the first one up and the last one to go to bed, so I ask my musicians and sound engineers according to their sleep cycle! Otherwise I use them up and it doesn’t do anything anymore.

Éric Cantonna even makes a small “appearance” on the song Adrénaline. Nice surprise!

I love the fact that he came like that, like a message he left on my voicemail. It’s very sweet, it’s a super important piece of the album. This piece inspires me with both a rush of adrenaline, very strong, and at the same time freedom. He had been following the project for a long time, we wrote to each other, I really like him.

You recently became a father. Has this changed anything in your music?

My son allows me to get up earlier and go to bed later to create! It’s very practical, a baby, when you have my style of work and life….

Adrenaline (Melancholy FC/ Romance Music). Album available. On tour throughout France and from November 21 to 24 at La Maroquinerie (Paris)
