NICOLET. For a tenth year, the Nicolet Popular Arts Center is joining forces with the Accros du fuseau collective and is organizing the Lacemakers and Embroiderers’ Day on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It has already been ten years since the Center for Popular Arts took over from the Maison et Atelier Rodolphe-Duguay to organize the Lacemakers and Embroiderers’ Day in Nicolet.

Over the years, this large public fair around lace and embroidery has become the most important event of its kind in Quebec. For practitioners, it is an opportunity to come and discover the new products that specialized merchants from across Quebec have to offer. As a bonus, the Accros du fuseau collective presents their works created during the year. The theme of this annual exhibition: Small handkerchiefs.

For the start of June, the organizers are hoping for a beautiful sunny day so that, once their purchases have been made, several of the artisans present will settle down with their stools, tables and tiles in all the available spaces and on the vast grounds of the Center popular arts for crossing spindles or handling the needle.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the Museum of World Cultures extended its magnificent exhibition of art embroidery “Tracks of Eternity” created by Madame Marie-Renée Otis. This same Saturday the artist will be at the Museum between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to meet visitors.

Lacemakers and Embroiderers’ Day is a rare opportunity to come and observe the meticulous work of these thread artists under the large vault of the Center des arts populaire, located at 725 boulevard Louis-Fréchette in Nicolet (route 132). Lacemakers and Embroiderers’ Day will welcome the public on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost of entry is $5.
