Victims aged 16 to 20
The accident took place around 2:30 a.m. on the D 1089 departmental road in the town of Libourne, killing four occupants of the same vehicle, aged 16 for one and 19 to 20 for the three others, detailed the public prosecutor of Libourne Loïs Raschel, in a press release.
A fifth passenger, hospitalized, “suffers from numerous fractures but his vital prognosis is not in jeopardy”, again according to the prosecution.
Two motorists arrested
Two people “driving other vehicles” were taken into custody on Sunday afternoon, added the magistrate, who opened an investigation for “involuntary manslaughter”.
According to a Source close to the case, the hypothesis of a “loss of control of the vehicle after a chase between young people” (possibly a “game”) is raised at this stage by the investigators.
According to the mayor of Libourne Philippe Buisson, the victims came from Coutras, a small town located in the northeast of Gironde. They had spent the evening in Dordogne.
“The violence of the shock was such that I am going to mobilize a psychological unit for first responders from the emergency and gendarmerie services,” the elected official told AFP by telephone.
