If some cherish the dream of settling down in a house nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, this often remains thwarted by the reality of real estate prices.

But to stop the demographic decline of small mountain villages, the regional authorities of Tuscany announced a measure which did not fail to go around the web: that of paying 30,000 euros, maximum, to candidates for installation in these perched hamlets.

How to pocket 30,000 euros to move to Tuscany?

If the demographic crisis spares no corner of theItaly, villages located in remote areas are particularly affected. The rural exodus is hitting this country, like many others, pushing residents to settle in cities, where the food marketjob offers more possibilities. As a result, small villages find themselves with entire streets abandoned, a moribund economy and houses sometimes falling into ruin.

To find solutions, local authorities are trying to innovate, with some villages even proposing shock measures such as sales of houses for one euro.

Tuscany has decided to sign a check to those who would come to take up residence in the declining villages.

Applicants for installation will be able to receive 10,000 to 30,000 euros for the purchase of a house, as part of a new program called “Habitat en montagne 2024”.

The accommodation in question must therefore be located in a village of montagne with less than 5,000 inhabitants, one of the 119 localities concerned in Tuscany.

And this financial contribution cannot cover more than 50% of the cost of the purchase and renovation of the property.

The Tuscan reliefs constitute “territories of unequaled beauty, which have villages to rediscover but nevertheless suffer from desertification”, indicates Stefania Saccardi, regional vice-president of Tuscany.

“Deciding to live in one of these municipalities is therefore both a challenge and an opportunity, particularly for young people, with the possibility of a new life choice.”

Who can benefit from this help?

Behind the resonance of such an initiative, however, strict conditions surround this offer. It must therefore be clarified that this subsidy can only be allocated to Italian nationals or to citizens of another Member State of the European Union, or to those from third countries in possession of a residence permit of a duration minimum of ten years.

Those wishing to take up residence in these Tuscan villages must already to reside in an Italian city, and not live in a mountainous area (according to the classification of the Italian National Institute of Statistics).

For those who would be interested in taking the plunge, applications can be submitted using the form available on the Tuscany region website, before July 27, 1 p.m. (CET).
