SSaturday June 8, the town of Hendaye will be very slippery to the delight of surfing enthusiasts, of course, but also of stand-up paddle, skateboarding, canoeing, not to mention those who wish to learn coastal rescue. All day long, the square located in front of the Croisière (former casino) will be transformed into a snow sports village with registration stands for the various activities offered, most of them free, and plenty of entertainment. Families will be able to practice board sports or discover surprising specialties.

The reputation of the last or first town on the Basque Coast is well established: Naturally protected from strong swells, the 3.5 kilometer long beach, with a flat and sandy bottom, is both a garden for beginners and a fallback spot popular with the most experienced surfers.

“A Gliss Pass”

Some Hendaye schools are collaborating on the event. At Lehena, Ananda, Julien and Battite, who have been participating in Surf Day for 10 years, are ready to introduce beginners to the thrills of surfing, both strong and gentle. In the front row, on the sea boulevard, they contemplate and estimate the waves. “On June 8, they will be there and in Hendaye, they are still surfable. We will provide boards and wetsuits before giving a 45-minute lesson in the water upon reservation.” A sum of only 5 euros is required for introductions to surfing or canoeing and a Gliss Pass to be stamped throughout the experiences will allow participants to win gifts at the reception tent where many surprises await visitors.

New sensations

Some will not hesitate to try jetsurfing or electric surfing for a preferential rate. They will surely experience adrenaline rushes on these electric boards, as they ride the waves. And no matter the level, the state-of-the-art equipment provided guarantees a smooth and exhilarating surfing experience.

The waves will roll well for Sliding Day

For more peaceful moments, kayaks and paddles are loaned free of charge at the Florida dock from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Introductions to skateboarding, coastal rescue and “Beach Manga” sand drawings are free. All day long, civic events are planned with Water Family and Surfrider Foundation and you should not miss the concert by the group Les Castillon from 4 p.m. The electric acoustic duo Fabien and Mélissa pay homage to Kate Bush, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, The Doors… because Sliding Day, in addition to allowing you to easily discover water activities, also promises a beautiful atmosphere.
