The Danish distributor Jysk now has 72 stores in France. For several months, this furniture brand has regularly opened points of sale in France.

The brand has been present in France since 2007 but its development accelerated in 2020. Jysk is a Danish furniture brand which now has 72 stores in France, mainly in small towns located in the northern part of France, summarizes Capital.

Since the takeover by the parent company in Denmark in 2020, Jysk has changed pace and is increasing its store openings. Last week, the group inaugurated its 72nd point of sale in Denain, near Valenciennes, BFM highlights in particular.

Compared to Ikea

Since Covid, Jysk’s turnover has doubled in France, reaching 68 million euros.

A different concept

Often compared to Ikea because of its Scandinavian origins and affordable prices, Jysk is a different concept. Its stores are smaller and it offers many brands such as Simmons, Dodo or Dunlopillo while Ikea only sells its own products.

From bedding to garden furniture

Founded in 1979 by Lars Larsen, Jysk began by offering quality bedding products at attractive prices. The first store opened in the Jutland region in northern Denmark. Lars Larsen chose “jysk” for the name of his store, in reference to the affectionate nickname given to the region’s inhabitants. It specializes in goose down products, hence the brand logo.

Jysk has gradually expanded its range, in household linen, furniture, small decorations, bathroom and garden furniture.

Accessible Scandinavian style

“We are very strong in garden furniture which represents 35 to 40% of our turnover in seasonindicates Luc Weiland, responsible for the expansion of Jysk in France, to BFM. We have our own brands on these products, we are a bit of a reference.”

Jysk hopes to succeed in France with the accessible Scandinavian style menu. The furniture brand’s long-term objective is 500 stores in the country.
