Ce Tuesday November 19, 2024the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea is organizing, in conjunction with the Manche prefecture, a major training of maritime rescue of great magnitude in the harbor of Cherbourg.

The maneuver will consist of testing the rescue of a large number of passengers on a passenger ship that has suffered a disaster.

In order to be as realistic as possible, the initial scenario involves an outbreak of fire.

Once the alert is transmitted to Cross Jobourg, it coordinates the dispatch of first aid.

For security reasons, the exercise will take place in the harbor of Cherbourg, aboard the Abeille Liberté, a breastplate vessel.

High school students will play castaways

The role of castaways will be played by students from the Cherbourg maritime high school.

This exercise will mobilize Samu doctors and nurses of maritime medical coordination, SMUR Maritimes of Granville and and the Cotentin public hospital center, staff of the Cherbourg marine firefighters company and SDIS 50.

Maritime and air resources will also be present in the area to deploy teams and rescue the shipwrecked SNSM of Goury, the H160 helicopter of the French Navy based in Maupertus.
