Jonathann Daval, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for the murder of his wife Alexia (in October 2017 in Gray-la-Ville, in Haute-Saône), was acquitted of charges of slanderous denunciation brought by his ex- beautiful family, this Friday, May 24, 2024 by the criminal court of Besançon.

Jonathann Daval knew that the accusations made to the civil parties were completely inaccurate but legally, denunciation, to be criminally reprehensible, must be spontaneous judged in particular Judge Guillaume Law of Lauriston.

In June 2018, Jonathann Daval retracted confessions made in January 2018 and accused his brother-in-law, Grégory Gay, of having strangled Alexia Daval after trying to calm the young woman in crisis. According to him, Alexia’s parents, Jean-Pierre and Isabelle Fouillot, and her sister Stéphanie, then agreed to frame her for the murder. As improbable as these accusations seem, they lasted six months.

“There will be a new trial”

This acquittal for slanderous denunciation is in any case in accordance with the requisitions of prosecutor Étienne Manteaux. During the hearing which was held on April 10, 2024 in Besançon, the magistrate had in fact recalled that the law and jurisprudence recognize that an accused person can lie, even if it is morally very hard .

This Friday morning, one of the Fouillot family’s lawyers, Me Gilles-Jean Portejoie, declared not to be surprised by this decision, given that the prosecutor had requested an acquittal . However, the lawyer continues to consider that this decision is unfounded. The Court of Cassation has placed limits on the right to lie. We cannot lie with impunity .

Me Portejoie announces that the Fouillot family will appeal the civil provisions of this judgment. Jonathann Daval’s in-laws demanded €60,000 in damages. There will be a new trial. Alexia’s family was very shocked by the prosecutor’s requisitions indicates Me Gilles-Jean Portejoie.

At the end of the hearing, Isabelle Fouillot, Alexia’s mother, let her anger show: I thought with the first trial it was going to be over. This is not the case. They are putting obstacles in our way. We can’t get Alexia’s house back… , she said. The succession of the house of the couple Jonathann and Alexia Daval is in fact still not settled…
