VIDEO – The Ferrari F80 takes the track at Imola

Ferrari took advantage of the Finali Mondiali contested on the Imola circuit to offer its fans a first glimpse of its F80 in motion.

To replace the very successful LaFerrari launched in 2013, and before it the Enzo (2002), the prancing horse manufacturer has chosen to return to its historical nomenclature with the legendary F and the anniversary of the creation of the brand. Thus was born, on October 17, 2024, the F80 which succeeds the F40 and F50 in this line.

A car to be placed in the hypercar class in the same way as the Mercedes-AMG One or McLaren W1. Wonders costing more than 3 million euros, exactly 3.6 million in the case of the Ferrari… excluding the ecological penalty of 60,000 euros in . Prices beyond the reach of ordinary mortals, but exceptional models, but which are a bargain. As proof, the production of this F80 will be increased to 799 units, when that of the previous LaFerrari was 499 closed units and a series of 209 convertible units (Aperta) in order to reward a few loyal customers.

Proof that times are changing, this F80 no longer relates exclusively to its Formula 1 heritage, but also and above all to that of the 24 Hours of . Thus, the Italian justifies the abandonment of the legendary naturally aspirated V12 by a quest for unprecedented performance by largely taking over the mechanics of the 499P prototype, double winner in the in 2023 and 2024. The heart is a 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 open at 120° and 900 horsepower. Added to this is a first electric motor sandwiched with the double-clutch gearbox and with a power of 81 horsepower. On the front axle, two other electric motors each delivering 142 horsepower, for a cumulative power of 1,200 horsepower at the point of intersection of the energy curves. The boost is provided by a small 2.3 kWh battery, which unfortunately does not allow a 100% electric mode to operate silently and without polluting in the city.

The F80 displays totally crazy acceleration values at 100 and 200 km/h with 2.15 and 5.75 seconds respectively. Watch out for your neck! The F80 has other arguments to put forward, such as an aerodynamic profile combining nods to the past – Zoro-style black stripe of the 365 Daytona, front wings of the F40 or engine cover of the F50 GT – and ultra-sophisticated controlled suspension . Internal and external air flows are electronically guided as needed and in line with the ride height, which is constantly maintained at the threshold of maximum efficiency during acceleration, braking and cornering. The aero load already reaches 1 ton at 250 km/h… when the top speed is set at 350 km/h. Finally, the two electric motors at the front provide additional dynamism thanks to torque vectoring.
