Scene of desolation on this morning of Friday May 24, 2024 at Loroux-Bottereau (near Nantes).
A fire ravaged the convention center, the community hall, which is one of the oldest in the Nantes vineyard, built in the early 1970s.
The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m.
Last night there was another public meeting (regarding the crematorium project) which displaced around fifty people.
The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. Thirty-five firefighters intervened. The 1,000 m room2 completely burst into flames. No injuries have been reported.
Electrical problem on the roof
Rescue action helped prevent the spread to an adjoining sports hall (Salle des Gardes). It took four spears, two of which were on a large scale, for the extinction.
Firefighters were still on site this morning.
THE Mayor Emmanuel Rivery was able to interact with them. The fire could be caused by an “electrical problem with the roof”.
Emmanuel Rivery, mayor: “I feel like I’m losing a friend”
It’s so sad, I feel like I’ve lost a friend… I’ve known this building for 20 years. I just received a message from the Department who liked to make fun of its vintage side. The damage is too great to hope to preserve it, there are so many memories linked to this place. It’s sad, I think of the people who knew him forever…
The college and swimming pool closed
Due to this fire, the Auguste-Mailloux college, 100 m from the convention center, is closed this Friday. Just like the Divaquatic pool, at least for the morning.
