On the night of March 3 to 4, 2008 David Sagno, 33, of no fixed address went to the -La Défense police station. He claims responsibility for the murder of two women. That in 2002, of Maria-Judite Araujoa 48-year-old housekeeper during the procedure and Marie-Agnès Bedota 45-year-old woman, under the arches of the Pont de Neuilly, a year earlier.

Marc Machin, a young man aged 19 at the time of the events, has already been sentenced to 18 years in prison for this latest murdere. The DNA traces found on the bodies of the two victims are compared with that of David Sagno: he is indeed the real bruised oner.

Daniel Zagury, legal psychiatrist and judicial expert at the Court of Appeal, examined him accompanied by a few colleagues after his denunciation in 2008. He returns in Voices of Crimeon the words of the double murderer during the investigation. What reasons pushed David Sagno to take action?

He expressed that he needed these rites for his esoteric power needs

For several years, the 33-year-old man wandered in car parks in La Défense and Neuilly-sur-Seine. His chaotic journey seems to have had a significant impact on his psyche. When he was younger, he said he saw his mother the victim of domestic violence. When he presents himself at the La Défense police station, David Sagno explains his action.

“He expressed that he needed these rites for his needs for esoteric power. He mentioned numerology. He added that at the time of the events, he felt in a daze, that time no longer existed, that he felt good, was not afraid of anything, saw himself as a heroand that he always had sexual thoughts mixed in with that. So you see that these are still precise statements, with these words of his, and we have almost everything in these initial self-denunciatory remarks,” explains David Zagury.

A killer driven by psychotic disorders

In 2010, the psychiatric experts submitted their report: they consider that David Sagno saw his discernment altered. Daniel Zagury and his colleagues conclude that he exhibits symptoms of both psychotic delusions, psychopathy and perversity. All of this, maintained in a divide which allows him to “put the show on the table” in front of others. David Sagno also talks about an “evil double” that he aspires to be.

In February 2012, the latter was finally sentenced to 30 years in prison before the Hauts-de-Seine Assize Court of accompanied by a security sentence of twenty years. In 2024, the criminal center of cold cases in Nanterre studies the criminal journey of David Sagno. A “certain number of factors identified in serial killers” assure the psychiatrists who examined him. In 2032, David Sagno will be freed. He will be 58 years old.
