“We were not able to attend our mother’s burial”: Silvie and Sandra shipwrecked from the rail in Nice on the day of the red alert

Silvie and Sandra Vebert were finally able to take a train this Friday noon to return to the region. Their stay on the Côte d’Azur was not supposed to last more than a day. “Time for an important medical appointment for Silvie,” whispers her sister Sandra. But the two women found themselves trapped by the bad weather which hit the department.

“We had to attend our mother’s burial”

“We had to take the 7 p.m. train to attend the burial of our mother who has just passed away this Friday morning,” Sandra laments. But because of the red alert all trains were canceled and then they closed the station. We ended up outside like tramps.” Without the slightest explanation or support, they lament.

The two sisters eventually found shelter for the night in a nearby hotel. The next morning they were back at Thiers station, hoping to catch the 10:15 a.m. train. “We explained the situation but the controller said there was no more room”assures Sandra who “by insisting” finally managed to get two tickets for the 12:05 p.m. convoy.

“Too late” to witness the pouring into beer. “It hurts, she confides. In a lifetime you only say goodbye to your deceased mother once. There is no second chance.”
