In Quimper, a diesel tank catches fire at Belmet Métallurgie

A fire broke out this Thursday, October 17, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., within the Belmet Métallurgie company, located in the Troyalac’h area, in . At the rear of the building, the fire started in a diesel tank, installed in a warehouse storing steel products. Arriving on site quickly, emergency services prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the site. In total, 20 firefighters from the Quimper and Concarneau centers were dispatched to the scene of the disaster. Those in were also on alert. In terms of equipment, two fire pump vans, a ladder, a water tank and a foam concentrate cell were mobilized.

On site, the group leader, Lieutenant Fabrice Cerisier, indicated that no hydrocarbon pollution had been detected. When help arrived, the employees had already been evacuated.

The site manager specifies that none of them were bothered by the fumes. He also informs that the company’s activity will resume normally this Friday, October 18.

GRDF and the National Police also went to the site. For the moment, the origin of the disaster is not known.
