Here is why the price of school canteens will increase in Loiret in 2025

The prices of foodstuffs and fluids (energy, water) have increased considerably, thus weighing on the budget dedicated to catering for college students. Aware of the impact of this increase on families, the Department of Loiret – whose council headquarters are located in Orléans – has chosen to limit its effects.

From January 1, 2025the school meal price will therefore go from €3.45 to 3,70 €. If the community had applied the consumer price index, it would have amounted to €3.90. Note that since 2023, prices have been frozen to avoid any repercussions.

The average cost of a meal (material, preparation, personnel), for its part, is almost €8(60% is covered by the Department).

A decision making it possible to reconcile increasingly stringent budgetary constraints as well as maintaining quality service.

Aid devices

Based on the observation of the lack of use of existing aid measures for education, the Department of Loiret wishes to raise awareness among its interlocutors so that they can better inform families of their rights:

• to state school scholarships – whose rate in the department is lower than the national average
• au fonds social cellars local public educational establishments (EPLE)

To benefit from this, parents are invited to contact the heads of establishments, social workers and municipal services.
