What you need to know about the first day of the European Championships
Before playing the tournament in singles, Félix and Alexis Lebrun played their first match in the table in doubles. The two brothers from Hérault won their meeting after conceding the first set against the Danes Martin Andersen and Jonathan Groth (9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9).
Félix Lebrun quietly established himself for his entry into the tournament. Opposed to the 602nd in the world and from the qualifications, the Turk Abdullah Yigenler, the Montpellier native did not need to linger around the table thanks to an expeditious victory four sets to nothing (11-6, 11-5, 11- 5, 11-7).
Seeded No. 7 in the tournament, Alexis Lebrun will face the Hungarian Bence Majoros (251st in the world) in the first round, at 8:10 p.m. Simon Gauzy will then follow at 9 p.m. against the Austrian Andreas Levenko, qualified.
The French duo Prithika Pavade and Simon Gauzy ensured themselves of obtaining at least the bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the European Championships in Linz after having produced a superb performance by overthrowing the Swedes, seeded N. 1, Kristian Karlsson and Christina Kallberg in quarters. They will face the Spaniards Alvaro Robles and Maria Xiao, 8th in the WTT rankings, on Friday noon.
